Has anyone had any Aha moments since the start of this class?

Well I have had one of those moments because to be honest with you ever since I started teaching (this is my 3rd year) I have never had any parent comment on my website. I thought that going in there to update it sometimes was a waste of time. Well this year one of my student's parents travels a lot for work. She has sent me emails from Bangladesh, Thailand, etc letting me know she is reading the webisite and she feels that she can check up on my student that way! Aha! I felt like a million bucks...knowing I helped one parent feel connected to my classroom through the website!

Something finally clicked in my brain about weblogs and websites. I honestly thought weblogs were all like the myspace phenomenon. I wouldn't have ever thought to use it in the classroom. I have learned how this can come to be with a little time and patience. The whole paper I wrote about Weblogs was and AHA!

My AHA is realizing how much I didn't know about blogging, listserv, and using delicious. I am still struggling with the listserv but slowly getting the hang of it. I hope my new class website will be used and visited by my parents. I hope it is attractive and useful to them. The other AHA was learning how many schools are using a wiki model for their students to contribute to an ever changing body of knowledge.

Last November I went to a technology conference in Austin. I consider myself pretty computer savvy, but I felt so lost among all of them. That's where I first heard of a lot of the things in this book (what blogging was about, pbwikis, flickr, etc.). I even went to a workshop in March or April and set up a blog for our teacher union and one for me personally. But that's the last time I looked at them! Now, I am thinking of ways I can try to incorporate them this year in my classroom, both for my parents and my lessons for my students!

well, I actually had an AHA moment this week.... As I was looking for ideas on websites and web quest pages I noticed and learned that a second grade teacher uses this blogging activity with her students and parents. I thought this activity was for older or middle or high school students... My AHA moment proved me wrong.....

The biggest AHA moment that I have had since starting this class is that technology doesn't want to play nicely with me! I have had so many computer/internet issues... I just wanted to blow that darn black box that sits on my desk up!!! But (temporarily) I have everything working so I will contribute as much as possible over the next few days... Technology is great when it works isn't it?!

My AHA! moment is learning that there are so many other ways to communicate with others besides email. It has been very interesting yet time consuming to try to keep up with everyone and everything =0). Late nights and busy days is what my life has come to be.The good thing is I'm able to post 24/7!
